4 Jun 2008 - June Newsletter 2008

Dear Parents

Welcome to the final month of session 2007/08!

HOLD ON TO YOUR BACKPACKS

As the end of session approaches and children begin to clear out their school belongings for the Summer holidays, we thought it would be appropriate to spare a thought

for children in Africa once more. The Backpack Project would warmly welcome further donations of children’s school bags, items of stationery and old Summer

clothes - Tshirts, flip flops etc.  Many children buy new school bags for a new session. If this is the case then please send unwanted items in to school. We will

ensure that they are uplifted by the Backpack Project. Many thanks.

THANK YOU!

We would like to say a huge thank you for all those vouchers you have been sending in over the past months. As a result many more games for the playground have

been ordered, as well as two “dark dens” for early years classes and some craft materials. Something for everyone!

STAFFING NEWS

Mrs. Alison Wood has announced that she will be retiring (early) in June. Mrs Wood has been our Support

for Learning Teacher for 17 years and has always given 100% to the children during her time here.

We will be extremely sad to see her go but naturally wish her a very happy retirement, which she richly deserves.

 Bugbusting day at rhps

On June 10th the school nurse will speak to  classes about head lice prevention. Head lice can be an irritating problem for children and their families from time to time. After the talk

letters will be issued about the” bug-busting” day which will take place on Friday June 13th. We look forward to your positive participation. Although a very irritating problem, head lice

can easily be treated and avoided.

PHOTO ORDERS

P1, P7 and Nursery proof photographs have now been sent home. Orders must arrive at school by Wednesday June 4th to be sure of the photos arriving before the end of term.

ART COMPETITION WINNERS

We very much enjoyed the Art Exhibition held on Friday 23rd May at Portobello Town Hall .

It was a lovely to have such a worthwhile focus for a cluster enterprise project.

A very large number of entries were received embracing a vast range of artistic styles and

media.  Primary 5A gained a highly commended award for their artistic designs of

swimming pool tiles. Primary 4 worthy winners were Zainab and Mhairi.  I’m delighted to say

that P6B were the overall winners of their section with an amazing model of the

new campus based on the original ideas of James Craig who designed the New Town. Well done

to all artistic entrants.
