  APRIL NEWSLETTER 2008

Dear Parents

I hope that you all enjoyed a lovely Spring break. It’s hard to believe that we are now in the final term of the school year.

We all had a lovely time at the Spring ‘chocolate” coffee morning organised recently by members of the Parent Council. Approximately £500 was raised as a result. Many thanks for all help and support. The Parent Council met just prior to the holiday to plan events and activities for the Summer term. More information to follow.

LAGGANLIA REVIEW

We arrived back from Lagganlia at on Friday March 14th. Everyone was happy to be home but we will all remember our experience for life! Most of us had the chance to try many things, including snow-blading, snow-boarding, mountain-biking, archery, rock-climbing, abseiling, orienteering and forest walks. We were well fed with excellent meals. They were delicious!  We all enjoyed fabulous evening entertainment and slept in comfortable rooms. Plus, thanks to the wonderful RHPS staff and marvellous Lagganlia instructors, everyone returned in one piece! Although we have only just arrived back we are all dying to do it all over again! Thanks Lagganlia!

Congratulations to the former   Baxter who was married last week and is now to be known as Mrs Justice. I am sure that you would all like to join us in congratulating the happy couple and wishing them a very bright future together.

HEALTH WEEK AT RHPS!

We are currently preparing for Health Week which commences next Monday. Hopscotch Theatre Company helped us prepare with their performance of “ Stephan ’s Expanding Stomach”. This was a marvellous show and everyone very much enjoyed it as well as reflected on the main message (clue’s in the title!).

A programme of sports, events and activities has been organised for next week. Some of

the activities include Flamenco Dancing, Mini-tennis, Monkey Moves, Orienteering and

Happy Healthy Heart Talks. We will be emphasising the benefits of a healthy and balanced

lunch box as well as conducting a survey into the amount of waste we create in the lunch room

each day.  A Community clean-up day will start the week off and as always you are invited to

lend a hand.

A contribution of £1 per child is asked towards the cost of the planned activities.

We would be grateful if this was received by Thursday. Many thanks.

Our healthy sponsored event this year is a whole-school mini-marathon! Each child will attempt

to run a mile or more and our aim is to cover the equivalent distance from Edinburgh to

London , approximately 400 miles. Who knows we might even cross the Channel to

France ! Sponsor forms are issued with this newsletter. Many thanks for your support in this.

Children may dress in Sports clothes next week (under school sweat shirts) as they will be

very active each day and make sure your child has a water bottle in school – very important.

THE BACK PACK PROJECT APPEAL

We are very pleased to report that 70 back packs were donated for the above appeal. In

addition 2 large boxes of extra items were collected. Many thanks a good number of

school children in Kenya will be very happy.
